Description (What the record is about)
- This dataset consists of data gathered from special schools and hospital schools in England during the Schools' Census conducted by the Department of Education and Science in 1990. The enumeration date was the third Thursday in January (18 January 1990). The dataset contains data on the following types of schools: Special schools: day or boarding schools providing education for "children with special educational needs who cannot be educated satisfactorily in an ordinary school". Hospital special schools: schools providing education for "children who are spending a period in hospital". General hospital schools: schools not catering specifically for children with statements of special educational needs. In 1990, two Forms were used to gather the data: Form 7M 1990, used for Special Schools for Handicapped Pupils and Hospital Special Schools; and Form 7H 1990, used for General Hospital Schools. The Form 7M form arrived with instructions that sections 1.3, 1.4, and 2.3 should not be completed by Hospital Special Schools. The dataset consists of a single table (scen7M90) which contains one record per school.
