Description (What the record is about)
- This dataset consists of data gathered from special schools and hospital schools in England during the Schools' Census conducted by the Department of Education and Science in 1978. As in other Schools' Censuses, the enumeration date was the third Thursday in January (19 January 1978). Most of the data reflects the position in schools on that date. The dataset contains data on the following types of schools: Special schools: day or boarding schools providing education for "handicapped children who cannot be educated satisfactorily in an ordinary school". Hospital schools: schools providing education for "children who are spending a period in hospital", including schools exclusively for children classified as severely educationally sub-normal (ESN(S)).The dataset consists of a single table (scen7m78) which contains one record per school.
