Description

Medical journal of His Majesty's Gun brig Furious, for 23 May to 6 July 1801 by Mr J Caice, Surgeon, during which time the said ship was deployed in the Baltic.

[Note: ADM 101/101/4, 4A-4D are produced as a single document: order as ADM 101/101/4].

Folio 2: Jonathan Teasle, aged 40, seaman; disease or hurt, his legs covered with a scaly eruption, costive. Taken ill, 23 May 1801, off Bornholm. Discharged to duty, 30 June 1801.

Folio 2: Jonathan Taylor, aged about 35, seaman; disease or hurt, a constant inclination to sleep, of a full plethoric habit. Taken ill, 23 May 1801, off Bornholm. Discharged to duty, 1 June 1801. After blood was taken the pulse became more full, proving 'that the symptoms proceeded from plethora, and that the system was oppressed with too much blood'.

Folio 2: 'No other case worthy of remark occurred until the 15th of June [1801]'.

Folios 2-3: Mr Redhead, aged 20, master; disease or hurt, headache, oppression circa proecordia, cough, sneezing, watery eyes, quick and painful respiration, pulse quick and skin hot, rather costive. Taken ill, 15 June 1801, off Bornholm. Discharged to duty, 24 June 1801.

Folio 3: 'No other cases occurred before the 6th of July [1801] immediately after which the gun vessels sailed for England'. Signed J A Caice.
