Medical journal of the Royal George, convict ship for 26 May to 26 October 1830 by Michael Goodsir, Surgeon and Superintendent, during which time the said ship was employed in a voyage to Van Dieman’s Land.

Folios 1-2: Henry Spicer, aged 19, convict, taken ill at sea; sick or hurt, obstipatio; put on sick list 28 June 1830, discharged 7 July 1830.

Folio 2: Joseph Palmer, aged 24, convict, taken ill at sea; sick or hurt, pneumonia; put on sick list 6 July 1830, discharged 10 July 1830.

Folios 3-4: Felix Dodd, aged 25, private 63rd Regiment, taken ill at sea; sick or hurt, diarrhoea; put on sick list 6 July 1830, discharged 17 July 1830.

Folios 4-5: John Norris, aged 35, convict, taken ill at sea; sick or hurt, hepatitis; put on sick list 22 July 1830, discharged 30 July 1830.

Folios 5-6: William Wilson, aged 28, convict, taken ill at sea; sick or hurt, hepatitis; put on sick list 22 July 1830, discharged 12 August 1830.

Folios 6-10: Daniel Salmon, aged 23, convict, taken ill at sea; sick or hurt, hepatitis; put on sick list 6 August 1830, died 20 August 1830.

Folio 10: Michael McEnney, aged unknown, private 63rd Regiment; taken ill at sea; sick or hurt, gun shot wound, was alarmed this morning about 3 o’clock by the report of a musquet on getting to the quarter deck, found one of the guard laying down shot through the right wrist, he stated that while on sentry in the main hatchway the ship gave a heavy roll which caused his musquet to go off; put on sick list 17 August 1830, discharged 10 September 1830.

Folios 11-12: William Vincent, aged 30, convict, taken ill at sea; sick or hurt, incipient phthisis, since 27th last month he has been severely seasick and not having been able to move from his bed rendered him very low, bowels very costive on examining him found that he has been long complaining of a cough and difficulty of breathing the glands of his neck are swollen and hard and at present has an ulcer discharging; put on sick list 16 July 1830, died 15 September 1830.

Folios 13-15: William Wiggins, aged 19, convict, taken ill at sea; sick or hurt, typhus fever, attacked last night with cold shivering and afterwards severe pain in his head chiefly in both temples accompanied with a dull pain in the loins; put on sick list 25 September 1830, died 2 October 1830 at 8 pm.

Folio 16: Thomas Wilson, aged 19, convict, taken ill at sea; sick or hurt, typhus fever; put on sick list 25 September 1830, discharged 2 October 1830.

Folios 17-20: Thomas Evans, aged 20, convict, taken ill at sea; sick or hurt, typhus fever, severe pain in both temples skin very hot and dry pulse small and regular tongue foul bowels loose the above symptoms were ushered in by cold shivering and has felt very cold all night, he sleep in one of the most confined berths in the ship being generally wet from the soil tubs which are placed near his berth with a most disagreeable smell; put on sick list 23 September 1830, died 7 October 1830.
