Medical journal of HMS Alkmaar from 14 December 1800 to 11 March 1801 by John McCully, surgeon, during which time the said ship was employed as the Flag Ship in Portsmouth harbour.

Folio 1: Blank.
Folio 2: John Saunders, aged 21, marine, SB 75; disease or hurt, severe and constant pain of the small of the back extending towards the right side and sometimes down the thighs. Has a scrotal eruption as well. Put on sick list, 6 January 1801, at Portsmouth harbour. Discharged 9 January 1801 to Haslar hospital.
Folio 2: William Berry, aged 19, marine, SB 78; disease or hurt, sickness, thirst and headache with alternate cold and hot fits. Put on sick list, 14 January 1801, at Portsmouth harbour. Discharged 19 January 1801 cured.
Folio 2: William Harman, aged 15, boy third class, SB 12; disease or hurt, had a fall into the fore cock pit from the deck by which he has bruised his left cheek and rubbed of some skin of his arm and leg. Put on sick list, 21 January 1801, at Portsmouth harbour. Discharged 25 January 1801 cured.
Folio 2: James Curtis, aged 38, quartermaster's mate, SB 308; disease or hurt, by a fall down one of the hatchway ladders has sprained his knee. Put on sick list, 22 January 1801, at Portsmouth harbour. Discharged 4 February 1801 cured.
Folio 3: Thomas Robins, aged 25, able seaman, SB 35; disease or hurt, two small ulcers on each side off the fraenum penis. Put on sick list, 26 January 1801, at Portsmouth harbour. Discharged 5 February 1801 cured.
Folio 3: John Biddel, aged 25, marine, SB 72; disease or hurt, pains in legs and arms and loins with want of rest and appetite. Put on sick list, 1 February 1801, at Portsmouth harbour. Left under the care of Mr John Magin, surgeon, 12 March 1801.
Folio 3: John Wood, aged 18, marine, SB 70; disease or hurt, general pains with headache, want of appetite and rest. Put on sick list, 6 February 1801, at Portsmouth harbour. Discharged 11 February 1801 cured.
Folio 3: Elijah Carlisle; disease or hurt, three ulcers near the root of the penis. Has lately had venereal condition and has often been poxed. Put on sick list, 12 February 1801, at Portsmouth harbour. Left under the care of Mr John Magin, surgeon, 12 March 1801.
Folio 4: William Barry, aged 19, marine; disease or hurt, pain of head and limbs, want of appetite. Put on sick list, 15 February 1801, at Portsmouth harbour. Discharged 7 February 1801 to Haslar hospital.
Folio 4: William Neversuch, aged 20, marine; disease or hurt, pain of head and back and also across breast. Put on sick list, 3 March 1801, at Portsmouth harbour. Discharged 11 March 1801 cured.
Folio 4: Michael Murdoch, aged 22, able seaman; disease or hurt, pain and ulcer in the peri[?] which appears of considerable size due to a fall. Put on sick list, 4 March 1801, at Portsmouth harbour. Discharged 5 March 1801 to Haslar hospital.
