Medical journal of the male convict ship Lady Ridley for 17 November 1820 to 26 July 1821 by James Wilson, surgeon and superintendent, on her passage to New South Wales.

Folios 1-2: Barnard Reily, private 48 regiment, aged 22; disease or hurt, pain in the left side with difficulty of breathing. Taken ill, 25 November 1820 at Deptford. Discharged 11 December 1820 to military hospital at Woolwich.
Folios 2-3: James Hull, private 53 regiment, aged 20; disease or hurt, three large foul chancres on the prepuce. Taken ill, 5 December 1820 at Deptford. Discharged 20 January 1821 to duty.
Folios 3-4: Owen Quin, private 48 regiment, aged 19; disease or hurt, pain in the breast near the procordia. Taken ill, 22 December 1820 in the Downs. Discharged 4 January 1821 to military hospital at Isle of Wight.
Folio 5: William Rudge, convict, aged 23; disease or hurt, great difficulty of breathing approching to suffocation. Taken ill, 7 January 1821 at Spithead. died 8 January 1821.
Folios 6-8: Richard Addy, convict, aged 29; disease or hurt, cough and pain in the breast. Taken ill, 15 January 1821 at Darthmouth Harbour. Discharged 11 February 1821 cured.
Folios 7-9: William Barns, private 53 regiment, aged 21; disease or hurt, vomiting and purging with severe griping stool. Taken ill, 10 February 1821 at sea. Discharged 22 February 1821 to duty.
Folios 9-10: James McAley, aged 8 days; disease or hurt, one of twins born on 18 February 1821 (see diary) was very ill, I found the infant had just breathed its last, the mother says the infant sucked little for the last two or three days. Taken ill, 26 February 1821 at sea. died 26 February 1821.
Folios 10-12: Samuel Guillim, convict, aged 20; disease or hurt, great weakness and stiffness of the lower limbs and soreness of the groins. Taken ill, 13 March 1821 at sea. Discharged 30 March 1821 cured.
Folios 11-12: John Marsh, convict, aged 40; disease or hurt, vomiting and purging with severe griping in the umbilical region. Taken ill, 24 March 1821 at Rio de Janeiro. Discharged 26 March 1821 cured.
Folios 12-14: Joseph Firth, convict, aged 26; disease or hurt, one of our high treason convicts appeared to suffer severely from mental depression complains of pain in the head and back with general uneasiness all over and a sense of shivering at times. Taken ill, 22 April 1821 at sea. Discharged 20 May 1821 cured.
Folios 15-17: William Singleton, convict, aged 42; disease or hurt, seized with cold shivering all over. Taken ill, 10 June 1821 at sea. Discharged 24 June 1821 cured.
Folios 15-16: William Kelly, convict, aged 28; disease or hurt, sitting on one of the upper berths, [this man] having his face to the ship's side and his back into the body of the prison, and by the ship taking a heavy rolling he was thrown from where he sat in amidship, the upper and hinder part of his hand striking the iron stand by which the integuments were divided. Taken ill, 12 June 1821 at sea. Discharged 20 June 1821 cured.
