KV 5/80
1951 Nov 30 - 1955 May 20
Macdonald Discussion Group. Named after one of its founders, Duncan MACDONALD, in 1951, this Communist discussion group was intended to provide a discreet forum for Communists, some of whom because of their employment or otherwise could not openly adhere to the party; membership was concentrated in the fields of the arts, architecture and the theatre. Invited speakers, though sympathetic to the left, were not always Communist. By early 1952 the Security Service ceased to study the group itself but maintained interest in its members
