Edvard BENES: Czechoslovak. Appointed Foreign Minister after the foundation of his country in 1918, Dr BENES was President of Czechoslovakia from 1935, including a period during World War II in exile in the UK, returning to Czechoslovakia after the war and resigning through ill health in 1948 shortly after the Communist take-over. Most of the papers on this slim file are Foreign Office dispatches and reports from various sources
