Northern Ireland: border incident reports.
Monthly reports containing details of incidents involving the Royal Ulster Constabulary, the Garda [Irish Police], British troops and the Irish Army. There are also monthly summaries in a tabular format.
The reports contain details relating to attacks on patrols and police stations, shootings, explosions, abductions and the discovery of arms and explosives. They also include comments on the state of relations between the British and Irish forces and information on border crossing points. A separate report covers the smuggling of goods between Northern and Southern Ireland using refrigerated lorries, and the payment of a percentage of the profits from these activities to the Provisional Irish Republican Army (PIRA).
