This series is an accumulation of miscellaneous maps. It includes examples of maps of which publication has now ceased and maps of surveys undertaken by the Ordnance Survey outside the normal run of the department's work: the latter are in most cases not preserved elsewhere.
The series of maps of roads, railways, and traffic and transport areas prepared for the London Passenger Transport Board in 1933 and 1936 are based on the one-inch Popular Series.
The series includes material which would otherwise be found amongst the Records of the Chief of the (Imperial) General Staff and its directorates (WO).
It is not possible to give details of the administrative background to many of these maps, as most records relating to them were destroyed by enemy action in 1940.
