The series contains files of Department of Technical Co-operation and its successor bodies from the CF registered file series generated initially by the Finance and Regional Programmes Department and subsequently by the Finance Department of those organisations. The former department was concerned both with finance and with the administration of regional aid schemes, but the responsibility for aid administration was later transferred to the individual geographical departments with what then became known as the Finance Department retaining only a co-ordinating role.
The files include material on technical assistance under the Colombo Plan, the Special Commonwealth African Assistance Plan (SCAAP) and the Foundation for Mutual Assistance in Africa South of the Sahara (FAMA), as well as on economic assistance within the Central Treaty Organisation (CENTO) and the South East Asia Treaty Organisation (SEATO).

- OD 20/1-480 were selected for permanent preservation following an accelerated review process under the Open Government Initiative in the Overseas Development Administration which identified certain subjects whose records could be released early. These included general aid policy matters, including geographical distribution of aid, oil prices and aid policy, the Disaster Unit and the Aid/Trade Contingency Fund.
