This series contains registered files from the Department of Technical Co-operation Social Services Department dealing with voluntary services overseas by UK individuals who were usually school leavers and young graduates or similarly qualified people. Most tended to be teachers who received an allowance for board and lodgings from the DTC and, usually, a small allowance from the host government. Those graduates who did not receive allowances from host governments tended to work in social welfare, agricultural and community development programmes.
Also contained in this series are files on financial aid to various institutions such as the Tropical Products Institute, the Anti-Locust Research Centre and the Pest Infestation Laboratory for research, and funds to overseas research stations for research on various projects.
