This series contains policy files of the headquarters of the Post Office Savings departments.

The vast majority of the files in this series carry a single letter prefix, followed by primary, secondary and tertiary file numbers. The alpha prefix appears to have been loosely based on the initial letter of the principal subject. Within the series the files are arranged in order of alpha prefixes, and then within primary numbers, within each accession.
It seems probable that files were taken into and out of this series from time to time, at times of Post Office statutory and administrative changes, and at times of physical relocation for one reason or another. The provenance of this material and of that in NSC 21 and NSC 45 would appear to be very similar or the same.
