The records include a letter book, some minutes of the museum committee, correspondence with the curator of the museum, a listing of the exhibits by Sir Geoffrey Callender and a rule book/ acquisition ledger.
The original records date from c1905-1922 but some earlier Museum published catalogues exist.
The museum was created in 1873 when the Royal Naval College was established at Greenwich in the buildings of the Greenwich Hospital. The collections of this museum were transferred to the National Maritime Museum under the 1934 National Maritime Museum Act.
