A provisional National Naval & Nautical Museum Trust was set up by the Admiralty 30th November 1927. In October 1929 the trust adopted the name National Maritime Museum (originally suggested by Rudyard Kipling). The trust existed until the passing of the National Maritime Museum Act 25th July 1934. The Board of Trustees of were appointed 3rd August 1934 and held their first meeting 8th October 1934.
