The title of the Finance and Machine Tools Division of the Ministry of Technology (MINTECH) underwent a number of changes in its early years: in 1966, it was referred to as the Finance and Machine Tools Division, but was also known as the Finance and General Division, and as the Finance Division. Later in 1967, it became known as the Finance and Accounts Division.
The division was responsible, under the Under Secretary (Finance), for co-ordinating the financial business of the Ministry, particularly giving advice to the Permanent Secretaries regarding their responsibilities as Accounting Officers. It was responsible for the preparation and submission of estimates, for formulating rules of financial procedure and advising on matters of financial principle. It also had responsibility for financial common services, central accounting and payment duties, legal matters and administration of land interests.
