Hermann Karl August LUEDECKE: German. A ship's steward and former member of the Hitler Youth, where he won the 'Golden Youth' badge, LUEDECKE was taken off St Helena by a British cruiser in November 1939 and interned until July 1943. In 1944 he married Renate HERZOG, treasurer of the Free German Youth and his former Nazi leanings were replaced by Communist sympathies. He was deported in 1953 following criminal convictions
