Manuel Mesquita DOS SANTOS: Portuguese. From an ISOS report it became clear that DOS SANTOS, a journalist in Brazil, had been recruited by the Abwehr and trained in wireless and secret writing methods of spying. His mission involved travelling to Mozambique and to South Africa to acquire military intelligence. However he was taken off ship at Freetown and brought back to the UK where he was interrogated at Camp 020 and, after some delay, confessed. He was detained for the duration of the war
