Description

7 items, numbered 3-4, 14, 16-17, 20 and 23: part of a Topographical Survey of part of northern France, laid out in ten sheets (see the index map in WO 78/1035/1). The immediate environs of certain fortified towns have been left blank because the officers conducting the survey were not permitted to enter these areas.

Sheet 1: (3-4) two copies of a map of the area between Calais, Saint-Omer and Boulogne-sur-Mer; item (3) on eight joined sheets and item (4) on two joined sheets. Reference tables. Scale bars in miles and toises. Compass indicators. Item (3) signed Lieutenant Colonel W Staveley; item (4) copied by Ensign F H Robe.

Sheet 2: (14) map of the area between Dunkirk (Dunkerque), Saint-Omer and Calais, on two joined sheets. Reference table. Scale bar in miles. Unsigned.

Sheet 3: (16) map of the area between Boulogne-sur-Mer and the River Authie, on four joined sheets. Scale bar in miles. Unsigned.

Sheet 4: (17, 20) two copies of a map of the area between Saint-Omer, Béthune and Hesdin; item (17) on three joined sheets and item (20) on two joined sheets. Scale bars in miles. Item (17) signed by Captain T Wright; item (20) unsigned.

Sheet 5: (23) map of the area between Cassel, Lille and Lens, on two joined sheets. Scale bar in toises. Copied by Lieutenant W Dillon.
