16 items, numbered 1-2, 5-13, 15, 18-19, 21-22: part of a Topographical Survey of part of northern France, laid out in ten sheets. The immediate environs of certain fortified towns have been left blank because the officers conducting the survey were not permitted to enter these areas.
(1) 'British Lines of Occupation. N. of France (after 1815). Manuscript sketches & copies by officers of the Royal Staff Corps. Scale about 1/44,000': schedule, prepared at the War Office Map Library, listing details of the various copies of each of the ten survey sheets. (2) Printed map of the area between Calais, Bruges (Brugge; now in Belgium), Guise and Blangy-sur-Bresle. Coloured MS additions form a graphic index to the sheetlines of the ten survey sheets.
Sheet 2: (5-13) two copies of a map of the area between Dunkirk (Dunkerque), Saint-Omer and Calais; item (5) on eight joined sheets, with two small exensions attached to the east and west sides; items (6-13) a single copy on eight separate sheets, with the eastward and westward extensions shown as insets on items (10) and (13). Reference tables. Scale bars in miles. Item (5) signed by Lieutenant J S Sedley; items (6-13) copied by Lieutenant T M Harris.
Sheet 3: (15) map of the area between Boulogne-sur-Mer and the River Authie, on 35 joined sheets. With a scenic vignette. Scale not shown. Unsigned.
Sheet 4: (18-19) map of the area between Saint-Omer, Béthune and Hesdin, on two separate sheets. Scale bar in miles. Copied by Ensign W Moore.
Sheet 5: (21-22) map of the area between Cassel, Lille and Lens: item (21) is the main map, on eight joined sheets, and item (22) is a thin strip that had become separated from the upper edge. Scale bar in toises. Signed by Lieutenant G S Hall.
