Bill of complaint addressed to the queen from John Brampton, of [Saffron] Walden, Essex, gent: concerning loan or excessive usury from Richard Billington of London, cordwainer, £14.
Bound by recognizance, £30, to deliver 20 lbs of saffron on 13 Nov (from previous April) which was commonly sold for 17s or 18s a pound, and at time of bargain was worth 20s a pound. Offer of 20 lbs of saffron refused on day.
Also bond to Henry Hexibie, of London, fishmonger, for payment of £5 10s 0d.
This bond assigned to Ralph Sympson, of London, fishmonger.
Put in suit.
Paid Sympson £4.
On 28 May bound to John Sweetinge, citizen and grocer of London, £40, for delivery of 20 lbs of saffron, to be delivered 12 Nov, for which he received but £13 6s 8d, when saffron was commonly sold for 21s 6d and 21s a pound.
Request for privy seal for defendant to appear in the Court of Requests.
