Description

Indenture of sale between (1) Sir John Watts, kt, alderman of London, and (2) James I: of property in Whitworth, Durham.

By indenture 30 Dec 40 Eliz [1597], George [Clifford], late earl of Cumberland, Thomas Ingelby, esq., and William Farrond, gent, sold to Sir John Watts, Paul Bayninge and Thomas Allabaster, citizens and merchants of London, (inter alia) the capital messuage of the manor of Whitworth in the bishopric of Durham, and woods, etc, called Palgebanke in the same.

By deed 20 Mar 6 Jas I [1609], Thomas Allabaster, released the premises to Sir John Wattes, who now sells to the king for £850. Note of acknowledgement before John Tyndall, master in Chancery. Endorsement of enrolment on the dorse of the close roll 23 Aug 7 Jas I [1609], by John Lewes.
