The Economics Division, created in 1964, provided economic advice across the range of the Ministry of Technology's (MINTECH) activities. In 1966, the Division was merged into an Economics and Statistics Division and in 1967, following the addition of responsibilities of the Ministry of Aviation into Mintech, an Economics and Statistical Analysis Division was set up and some of the work formerly undertaken by its predecessors was transferred to a newly created Industrial Policy Division.
The Industrial Policy Division was concerned with scientific and technological manpower, including the strengthening of the engineering profession, with industrial training and with the brain drain. The Economics and Statistical Analysis Division provided the Department's central statistical service.
