Summary of operations of Bomber Command for fortnight ending 1200 hours, Sunday 10th October, 1943. 9 aerial photographs annotated to show effects of bombing raids.
1) 'Bochum - 30 September, 1943 showing the severe damage to part of the Vereingte Stahlwerke AG and almost complete devastation in the old town with many fires still burning 16 hours after the attack. Some of the damage seen was caused in an earlier raid.' Size 12cm x 18cm.
2) ' Bochum - A - Part of the Blast Furnaces of Vereingte Stahlwerke AG with workers housing estate before the attacks. Compare with photograph B taken 30 September, 1943.' Size 18cm x 12cm.
3) 'Bochum - B - 30 September, 1943. Exactly the same area as in photograph A showing the damage caused by the attack of 29/30 September, 1943. Compare with photograph A before the attacks.' Size 12cm x 18cm.
4) 'Bochum - 30 September, 1943. Another part of the steel works of Vereingte Stahlwerke AG showing severe damage and a large area of the old town almost entirely gutted. Large fires are still burning 16 hours after the raid. There was only very slight damage in this area prior to the attack 29/30 September, 1943.' Size 14cm x 18cm.
5) 'Hagen. 4th October 1943. A large Road Bridge crossing the railway entirely destroyed by a direct hit. The ruins have fallen on two trains below. Note the gutted buildings of an engineering works alongside the railway.' Size 13cm x 19cm.
6) 'Kassel. 4/10/43. At top right hand corner is a Scientific Instrument making factory almost destroyed and still burning. The large block of buildings in the middle of the picture are Barrack Blocks, most of which are destroyed, many are still burning.' Size 19cm x 13cm.
7) 'Kassel. (A). An ammunition dump just north of the town showing the"lay cut" before the attack on 3/4th October 1943. Compare with"B" after the attack.' Size 19cm x 13cm.
8) 'Kassel. (B) 4th October 1943. The ammunition dump on the 4th October 1943. Compare this with (A) taken before the attack. The huge combined crater is over 300ft across.' Size 19cm x 13cm.
9) 'Kassel. 4/10/43. Many fires were burning 13 hours after the attack. Among the destroyed and damaged factories in this photograph are Leather, Paper, Chemical and Soap factories and Motor Repair works.' Size 19cm x 14cm.
