Description

Andrey Fedorovich ROTSHTEYN / Teodor Aronovich ROTSHTEYN, alias Andrew and Theodore ROTHSTEIN: Russian/British. Theodore ROTHSTEIN, a close associate of Litvinoff, was an early Communist in London. In 1920 he was said to be the principal agent of the Soviet Government in Britain, deeply concerned with attempts to establish a single, united Communist Party in the UK answerable to Moscow. The following year he was appointed Soviet ambassador and Comintern representative in Persia. Andrew ROTHSTEIN, his son, was a founder member of the British Communist Party who in 1922 began work in the Information Department of the Soviet Embassy (later to be known as Tass) in London. He was deeply involved in the early underground work of the Communist Party and during its early years a directing influence on its policies. At one point in the 1920s he was a conduit for Soviet funds to the Party. In 1944 ROTHSTEIN was removed from his Tass post but thereafter remained in close contact with the Communist Party and the Soviet Embassy
