Alexander Allan FOOTE: British. FOOTE, arrested by the Swiss authorities in 1943 in possession of a clandestine radio transmitter, had been a key figure in a Soviet spy ring, the Rote Drei, based in Switzerland during the Second World War and operating against Nazi Germany. Later, on his return to the UK disillusioned with Soviet communism, FOOTE gave full details of his involvement with Soviet military intelligence
