Herbert TRIBUTH: German. Born in South Africa, TRIBUTH belonged to a special unit of the German army controlled by the Abwehr. He was trained as a sabotage agent and in 1940 he and a companion, Dieter Gartner, were sent by boat from Brest to Ireland with explosives, with the aim of reaching England, but were arrested on arrival by the Irish authorities. TRIBUTH was repatriated to Germany after the war
