Stephen CARROLL-HELD: Irish. Of German descent, HELD, an IRA sympathiser, visited Germany in 1940 as an emissary of the IRA to discuss Plan Kathleen, the projected German takeover of Ireland. He was arrested when equipment, including a parachute and a transmitter, later found to belong to Hermann GOERTZ, a German spy, was discovered in his house
