This series consists of registered files of the Ministry of Transport: Waterways and Railways General Division, relating to inland waterways, water conservation, packet ports, the London Travel Committee, and papers of the Joint Anglo-French Working Party on the Channel Crossing.
Some files from the RA (MT 124), RIW (MT 115) and LP series (MT 135) were re-registered under the new WRG prefix. The WRG file series continued to be used until 1963.

On 1 February 1962 the Railways A and B Divisions were reorganised and an additional division was created, the Waterways and Railways General (WRG) Division. In September 1962 a further reorganisation occurred and the Nationalised Transport A and B Divisions were established. The work of WRG Division was largely divided between these new Divisions. Functions relating to London transport were transferred to the London Policy Division.
