This series consists of bound sets of papers relating to Light Railway Orders made under the Light Railways Acts of 1896 and 1912, and Section 68 of the Railways Act 1921.

The volumes in this series are in chronological order. Most contain a map, a copy of the promoter's draft order, a descriptive note, a note of the Inquiry, the Commissioners' report and a copy of the confirmed order.

In addition, some contain an estimate of the cost of construction and a book of reference.

Listed at the end of the series are some volumes concerning a few of the applications for Orders which, for various reasons, were not confirmed.
