Description

Lothar SITTIG/ Nils PAASCHE, alias (SITTIG) FELIX: German. Working in South Africa, SITTIG was interned in 1939 but escaped to become one of Germany's most prolific and highly-regarded agents in South Africa, reporting by radio to Berlin via his controller in Lourenco Marques. Much of his (largely inaccurate) reporting was to do with Allied shipping. Another task was to foment trouble in the Union by political means. PAASCHE was a fellow-agent and German friend of SITTIG's who had escaped with him from South African custody in 1940. Early in the war PAASCHE was collecting shipping information for the Italians in Lourenco Marques. In South Africa both were in close touch with leading members of extreme right-wing nationalist groups who were pursuing anti-Government pro-German policies. In 1943 both were also concerned with attempts to commit acts of sabotage in the Union
