Fritz HESSE: German. HESSE was head of the official German news service in London during the 1930's. Regarded as an expert on Britain, in the Second World War he was head of a department of the German Foreign Office under Ribbentrop which was responsible for policy concerning radio propaganda to Britain, the British Free Corps and for advice on the treatment of British prisoners of war. The file contains a copy of his 1945 interrogation report, one item in which suggests that he had established a productive pre-war relationship with an official at No 10 Downing Street during his time in London
