Papers collected by Frank Birch reflecting his appointment as Head of the German sub-section and day-to-day conduct of operations and administration. Also included are manuscript memoirs by Nigel de Grey concerning the parlous state of Naval Section in 1939 and his initiative in securing the services of Frank Birch, a veteran of the Admiralty's World War I Room 40.
