Middlesex: Westminster (now in London Borough of Westminster). 'Plan of the open Sewers and Drains in Hyde Park' (endorsed). Sketch plan of an area of Hyde Park immediately north-east of the Serpentine, bounded on the north by the Uxbridge Road, between the toll gate at Bayswater and the Tyburn turnpike (removed in or after 1829), and showing the junctions with 'Great Cumberland Street' (now Great Cumberland Place) and Park Lane; on the east by a road running south west from 'Park Gate' (Cumberland Gate from 1826) to the 'Serpentine River'; and on the south and west by the 'Serpentine River'. The plan shows drains and springs, some buildings including the Ranger's House, magazine and barracks (the latter built in the 1790s), roads and bridges. No scale shown. Compass indicator. A further endorsement states: 'Litchfield. Treasury'.
This plan was formerly held in the Public Record Office Library, with the shelf mark M.C. 8.11. It appears to be of archival origin, probably from among records of the Treasury, but no parent document or related records have so far been identified. 'Litchfield' is probably Charles Litchfield, who was employed at the Treasury from 1815 to 1854 (see J Sainty, Treasury Officials, 1660-1870 (University of London, Institute of Historical Research 1972)).
