Hans Von MEISS TEUFFEN: Swiss. Recruited by German Naval Intelligence in 1940, TEUFFEN was arrested in The Gambia in 1942 en route by sea to the Belgian Congo where his brief was to report details of shipping and to gather economic information. Ashore and after some delay, he confessed his intelligence role and volunteered his services to the British though the offer was not taken up. It transpired that he had been trained in radio transmission and secret writing in preparation for espionage along the West Coast and in Central Africa. TEUFFEN was brought to Britain, interrogated at Camp 020 and later released
