Description

General papers of the Royal Mint relating to colonial and foreign currency, 1818-1940.

They include records of the production of coins for the colonies by the Royal Mint and private contractors from c1809; records relating to the production of French and Hanoverian coins following the Napoleonic Wars, 1813-1815 and to the production of coins for foreign countries from 1923.

There are also records relating to the Royal Mint's relations with overseas mints and refineries and to the establishment of the supply of coin to the Commissariat and Treasury Chests abroad, 1815-1899. There are files relating to International Monetary Conferences 1867 to 1893.
