Appreciative letters from and to the Security Service. Beginning with letters of thanks exchanged with departments and police forces at the end of the First World War, the file contains other similar letters, as well as those exchanged on postings of individuals. One letter, dated November 1931, conveys the thanks of the Admiralty for the 'excellent work performed by MI5 during the recent unrest in the Royal Navy' ie. the Invergordon Mutiny; another, dated June 1944, refers to the clear evidence 'that the timing of our attack on Normandy was a complete surprise to the enemy' and congratulates all members of MI5 staff 'who have contributed so much to the initial success of the operation'
