Ernest Bruno LOWENHEIM and Walter LOWENHEIM: German. These brothers were members of the German Communist Party in the 1920s and later co-founders of the 'New Beginning' Party. They arrived in Britain in 1936 as refugees from Nazism. On the basis of a number of reports received from fellow German refugees, to the effect that they had worked for Soviet Intelligence in Germany before the Second World War, the brothers were interned in May 1940 but released the following year
