Description

Nominal card index to escape and evasion reports (S/PG series) located in WO 208/3298-3327, to helpers and aiders, and Allied honours and awards. (Described and orderable at item level.)

The reports in M.I.9/S/P.G relate to escapes and evasions. Escapes are identified on the cards with the abbreviations: (F) France, (B) Belgium and (P) Poland. Cards marked (-) relate to evasions. The cards also include indexes to those who helped or aided Allied personnel in either escaping or evading capture; indexes to liberation reports, honours and awards; and records of helpers and aiders with no reference to the file they are in. In most cases the reports that the cards refer to are catalogued by name.

In some cases there may be multiple cards for an individual. This may include a reference to their escape, evasion, or liberation report, and their award or honour. The cards to helpers and aiders may also include names of Allied personnel they helped.

The records for awards and honours are generally organised by country or area they were living in. They also include posthumous mentions or awards.

In some cases the cards do not appear to refer to records held at The National Archives. These include the records for the South African Defence Forces.

Some file references on the cards, including most of the CSDIC/ME/SKP/ or IS9/REP/G/ references, have not been identified as matching specific records held at The National Archives. The CSDIC/ME may be found among the Combined Services Detailed Interrogation Centre (CSDIC) files within AIR 40; reports in those files have not been catalogued individually, but include AI 1(k) reports (Air Intelligence).
