Ernst KALTENBRUNNER, alias Josef UNTERWOGER: Austrian. He succeeded Heydrich as head of the RSHA, which included the Gestapo, though he claims that his interest was directed largely to politics and foreign affairs and that Himmler himself took direct responsibility for the Gestapo. Kaltenbrunner conducted the purge which followed the attempt on Hitler's life in July 1944. He was described in a Camp 020 report as remaining 'unbroken' and the assessment was that 'the material so far extracted cannot be considered reliable'. He was tried at Nuremberg and executed in 1946.
