HARLEQUIN: a senior Abwehr officer who when captured offered to give information about his intelligence activities and colleagues to MI5. he became a prime source of information on the German Intelligence Service. The wide-ranging and valuable information he supplied included the fact that the insecurity of British Army Radio communications in the field had enabled the Germans to build up the British order of Battle in North Africa and the U.K. He went on to broadcast, under a pseudonym, for the Political Warfare Executive. He was given an undertaking that his identity would not be divulged. [See also KV/2/275-277].
