Ernesto SIMOES: Portuguese. Recruited and trained by the Abwehr in Lisbon in 1941 to report on ship construction and troop movements in England, he arrived here in 1942. When arrested he denied any intention of spying, though he admitted receiving one letter in secret ink. He was not brought to trial but detained for the duration of the war and deported in 1945.
