In 1919 a Press Bureau was established in the Office of the Commissioner to serve as a liaison office between the police and the press, and it became attached to the Secretariat (S Department). In 1930 it was reorganised and enlarged. In 1945 a public information officer was appointed to direct the bureau and extend its functions. It was later absorbed within a Public Relations Department with news and publicity branches.
