Description (What the record is about)

Folios 9-13. Letter [folios 9 and 13] from the Marquess of Salisbury [Lord Lieutenant of Hertfordshire] reporting the proceedings of the county's court of Quarter Sessions in response to the recent royal proclamation. Enclosed [folio 10] is a copy of the resolutions of the court made on 29 June, requiring the peace officers of the county to exercise particular vigilance. Also enclosed [folios 11-12] is a letter of 30 June to Salisbury from Richard Stanley, chairman of the Quarter Sessions, stating that a meeting had been requisitioned of noblemen, gentlemen, clergy and freeholders for the purpose of composing an address to the king.
