Description (What the record is about)
-
John Wilson Croker. There is an agreement with Messrs Jolliffe and Banks for the purchase of the Duke of York and George IV steam vessels on the conditions specified in the accompanying paper. We believe the hull and machinery of the Duke of York, now at Woolwich, is in a perfect state and its purchase can be considered completed. She will be ready to proceed to sea next week and we recommend a crew the same as allowed the Meteor. She can accommodate 80 passengers, including servants, and can carry sufficient fuel to reach Corfu, without stopping at Gibraltar or Malta. The purchase price for each vessel includes all cabin furniture except plate and crockery. Recommend that Lieutenants commanding these vessels are responsible for payment for furniture by instalments.
