Description (What the record is about)
-
Letter from the Admiralty Office to George Rose. The Royal Naval College has been established on a new plan, by which sons of noblemen, gentlemen, civil and military Officers may be admitted on payment of £72 per year or £8 per calendar month for any broken period less than half a year. The Admiralty consider it might be convenient to the Friends of Young Gentlemen and advantageous to the College, if they were allowed the option of paying such sums as are due either into the office of the Treasurer of the Navy in London or to the Clerk of the Cheque at Portsmouth Dockyard. Am sending a copy of a paragraph intended to be inserted in the Instructions to the Lieutenant Governor of the College. If you have no objection, directions will be given accordingly.
