Description

John Wilson Croker. Captain Otter has sent a book with information on the late prisoners of war in France, including a statement why John Wilson, a Marine of the late Minerve was not allowed an advance in prison. He gave information against Mr Haywood and Mr Gale, midshipmen at Givet, who were escaping. This caused the death of the former and severe wounding of the latter. This statement was given by Mr Blackmore, Midshipman of the Impress Service and Mr Haberfield, Midshipman of the United Brothers Tender, who were at Givet at the time, having heard John Wilson give the information and ask the Commandant to allow him the freedom of the town for what he had done. John Wilson is now at Chatham, applying for his wages. Ask whether he should be paid.
