Description (What the record is about)
-
Philip Stephens. Mr. Corbetts, Commissioner for the Sick and Hurt Seamen at Haslar Hospital, informs us of the discharge of invalids there. We see no way to pay these men, whose ships are abroad, with any degree of safety and which would lead to similar applications from every man, though not an invalid, who has wages due for any ships abroad. If a man intends to rejoin a ship in commission it may be advisable to discharge him and send him on board any ship bound for that part, where his own ship is lying. If it should be thought more convenient for them to proceed by land, then the Clerk of the Cheque may be directed to pay them conduct money for their journey, as we proposed in our letter of 26 December 1762.
