Folio 201. Draft letter from the Poor Law Commission, to Robert Tucker, District Auditor, acknowledging his letter of 26 August regarding the Axminster Poor Law Union and the giving of relief under the Outdoor Labour Test Order. In relating to his enquiry about the disallowance of any relief granted not in conformity to this order they state that they cannot advise specifically but the relieving officer is the person making the illegal payment and the disallowance may be made against him. If the specific guardian authorising the illegal payment can be identified however, it may be recovered against the guardian. Paper Number: 13908/A/1847. Poor Law Union Number 76. Counties: Devon and Dorset.
