Description
Content
Folios 199-200. Letter from Robert Tucker, District Auditor, to the Poor Law Commission, acknowledging their letter of 25 August 13184/A/1847 regarding the Axminster Poor Law Union. He observes that the Commission sanctions the relief mentioned in Mr Bond's letter as far as it conforms to the Outdoor Labour Test Order and reported in the time prescribed by that order. He asks for a copy of that order to be sent to him. He asks if he finds in the audit that the relief has not been reported with the 15 day limit who should he charge he sum disallowed to? It will be hard on the relieving officers to bear a disallowance caused by an omission of the board of guardians or the clerk. Annotated: send a copy of the order. The relieving officer is the person making the payments and the disallowance may be made against him. If the specific guardian authorising the illegal payment can be identified however, it may be recovered against the guardian. Paper Number: 13908/A/1847. Poor Law Union Number 76. Counties: Devon and Dorset.
